The technology behind the Landa S10 Nanographic printer

Printing has come a long way over the centuries. From woodblock printing in 200AD to etching in the middle ages. But it wasn’t until the 1800s when offset printing was developed that large-scale printing began. Over the next century and a half, we started harnessing technology like never before, moving into inkjet, laser, digital, 3D, and now nanographic printing. 

What is nanographic printing?

Nanograph printing technology, also called nanography, differs from other printing technologies because it uses an innovative system and printing process that employs Landa NanoInk. Landa NanoInk is a water-based ink with nano-pigment particles that measure tens of nanometers in size. 

While inkjet printing jets transfer the image directly onto the substrate, nanography first ejects the NanoInk onto a unique heated blanket and only then is the ink transferred from the blanket to the substrate in the form of an ultra-thin film. 

Because the ink is water-based, it produces minimal waste compared with oil-based alternatives, whilst providing a vivid and clear colour. 

Why is the Landa S10 printer one of the best? 

Because of the technologies behind the Landa S10 Nanographic printer, the print quality is spectacular, offering a high-quality final image that previous printing technologies could only dream of. The Landa is also able to print up to 6,500 B1 size sheets per hour – the equivalent of 117,000 A5 single-side leaflets per hour. Helping to save a business both time and money when it comes to printing, no matter the scale.  With research suggesting the average office worker uses up to 45 pieces of paper per day, the fact that the Landa produces zero waste will have a positive impact on reducing office waste moving forward.  

What are the technologies behind the Landa S10 Nanographic printer?

The Landa S10 Nanographic printer is equipped with a spectrophotometer for maintaining colour consistency and print uniformity. It does this thanks to the inspection system technology that automatically verifies registration, checks nozzle conditions, detects artifacts, and validates barcodes and QR codes ensuring no paper is wasted. 

The Landa is fitted with a unique ‘Operator Cockpit’, that allows access to all the functions and let the operator quickly view the press status, monitor the delivery, inspect output, and view real-time video feeds of printing inside the press. 

The innovative press creates high coverage images with a four-colour process system (CMYK), which can be extended to a seven-colour system. Because of this exciting colour technology, it practically eliminates the need for spot colours – the time spent on creating and mixing colours and the on-press colour switching.

The printer arrived at the South Yorkshire based printing company in 2019 and they are adapting their current workforce to become Landa experts, as three of their team received specialist training in Israel where Landa is based.
