We previously posted how to upgrade or update any Tecno Android smartphone to Android 7.1 Nougat but some people seem not understand it very well, That’s okay, Today, I am going to take time to explain more on How To Get Android 7.1 Nougat on Your Phone.
This post might be less relevant to some people while it might be very important to some.
The reason of that is that most recent Android phone in the market is now coming with the latest Android OS on them. Most of them come with the later Android 5.0, 5.1 Lollipop, Some with Android 6.0 MarshMallow, and some with the recent Android 7.0, 7.1 Nougat.
The era in which many smartphones manufactures pushes their phone with the old Android 2.3, 4.0, 4.1 GingerBread, 4.2, 4.4 KitKat is nearly coming to an end gradually. the updated Android versions are taking over.
Updating or Upgrading an Android smartphone comes with many benefits which include Security, features, and performance. I guess everyone wants that.
Well, apart from that, we have our personal reason for wanting to Upgrade our smartphone to the Android Nougat.
For you to Get Android 7.1 Nougat on Your Phone, there are two things to check out for that to be possible.
- OTA Update. ( Over The Air)
- Custom Rom.
OTA is an official update or upgrades you a smartphone receive from its manufacture straight over the air. It means you don’t have to go to a phone technician to do that, you can just sit in the comfort of your phone and press update and your phone will be updated.
Many smartphones manufacturer promises OTA update but will later not send an update to their phone. The reason is best known to them.
OTA Updates are the safest and easiest way of updating and upgrading a smartphone but its really hard to get on many smartphones.
Not all manufacturers even promise to push an OTA talk more about pushing them to their phone.
How to update or upgrade your smartphone through OTA
For you to update or upgrade your smartphone through OTA, all you have to do is
- Go to Setting on your phone.
- Go to About Phone.
- Look out for Check for update. ( The language used may differ from smartphones).
- Click Check for Update or Run it to check if there is an update for your phone.
- Look out for Software Update on your phone.
- Run the app to check update
- If there is an update, it will tell you.
- If there is, proceed and Install it.
- You are done.
Before doing any OTA update, Its always advisable to backup your contact and stuff, your phone might brick but the percentage is very low of that happening.
If after doing an OTA Update and you didn’t like the result or outcome, you can go for the second option which is custom rom.
Custom rom unleash many features that we never know on our phone.
It is most time very much better than the stock OS that comes with our Android phones.
Custom ROMs comes with vast customizations and features that you might see in your stock OS or stock rom.
But for you to enjoy custom rom, there are many things involved which determines whether you can get a custom rom or not.
But before you can do all that, you have to first of all root your smartphone.
I am going to explain to you what you need to check before you can flash a custom rom to your phone.
Things that qualify you to get a custom rom.
If you check the three things above, if you can walk your way through that, then, you can get a custom rom on your phone.
Many smartphones that are being shipped these days come with either locked or unlocked bootloader.
Some doesn’t come with bootloader at all which makes everything impossible.
There is a way you can check if there is a bootloader on your phone If the bootloader is locked or not.
If your bootloader is locked, you will need to unlock it before you can flash any custom rom. If there is no bootloader at, you can go ahead and port a custom recovery. If it flashes, then you are good to go, if it doesnt work, you are not good to go.
Some old smartphones that run on KitKat and jellybean that didn’t come with Bootloader work well when flashing a custom rom but some smartphones won’t work.
Porting an MTK phone can be easier than porting a Snapdragon smartphone.
In MTK smartphone, There might be kernel differences in its smartphones.
For example, a rom that worked on a 3.10.56+ Kernel will never work on a 3.18.35+ smartphone, even though they can be the same Chipset like MT6735.
I won’t discuss much concerning Snapdragon smartphone because I don’t know much about them. you can check XDA developers for best answers concerning them.
So when checking out for a custom rom, you should also consider that so that it works out easy for you.
When it comes to Chipset, we talk about Mediatek, Qualcomm Snapdragon, Spreadtrum and the rest of them.
The chipset for Android smartphones is highly considered while porting or making rom for any smartphone.
Like MTK Smartphones, there are for examples, MT6580, MT6582, MT6572, MT6735, MT7653 and many of them that we didn’t list here. You consider them when porting a rom.
Another thing we also consider is the processors, some Android smartphone is 32bit while some are 64bit. The other cannot work on the other so you will need to take note of that too.
Afer checking through all the three major things listed above, you can work towards getting a custom rom for your phone.
Flashing a custom rom, rooting your phone or flashing a custom recovery voids your phone warranty.
After checking the three things and you wish to continue, we are going to be of help anytime you need help to upgrade your phone. You can also check out our custom rom page to know if you can get a custom rom for your phone.
